چکیده
The sediment deposited by debris flows in rivers is a common cause of mountain disasters. deposition characteristics are strongly affected the entrainment during transportation process and water depth river channel, but how poorly understood. Here, effects released flow volume, density, bed on investigated for total 22 different tests. Detailed topographic surveys deposit lobes conducted using 3D laser scanner with high precision. slopes largely determined density bed-sediment composition. However, effect volume lobe slope relatively limited. areas projected onto horizontal plane display dumbbell or trapezoidal shapes depending cross sections along lateral flume present Gaussian distribution after entrainment. area reduced height enhanced an increase depth, contributing to steeper deposit. Partial, submersed complete blockages occur, debris-flow depth. This study improves understanding features may aid future hazard assessments flows.

Numerical Simulation of Failure Behavior of Granular Debris Flows Based on Flume Model Tests
In this study, the failure behaviors of debris flows were studied by flume model tests with artificial rainfall and numerical simulations (PFC(3D)). Model tests revealed that grain sizes distribution had profound effects on failure mode, and the failure in slope of medium sand started with cracks at crest and took the form of retrogressive toe sliding failure. With the increase of fine particle...
متن کاملFlow Characteristics in a Rotating Circular Flume
Increased construction activity and associated receiving water concerns in the Greater Toronto Area has prompted this study to advance our knowledge on cohesive sediment transport processes in rivers and lake environments. Flow characteristics in a rotating circular flume at the National Water Research Institute (NWRI), Burlington, Ontario were studied using a computational fluid dynamics (CFD)...
متن کاملSimulation of gravel-sand bed response to flushing flows using a two-fraction entrainment approach: Model development and flume experiment
[1] In this work we combine existing ideas on gravel and sand entrainment into a simulation model for flows that flush sand from the surface and subsurface of a gravel riverbed. A flume experiment is conducted to provide a test of the flushing model. The primary advance represented in this paper is incorporation of a two-fraction entrainment approach into a routing model to account for the effe...

An overview of removal and re-entrainment of particles in turbulent flows is presented. The procedure for the direct numerical simulation (DNS) of the Navier-Stokes equation via a pseudospectral method for simulating the instantaneous fluid velocity field is described. Particle removal mechanisms in turbulent flows in a duct are examined and effects of the near-wall coherent eddies on the parti...
